Nigeria and Uganda â among 32 of the 54 African nations with laws criminalizing same-sex relations â have some of the strictest anti-LGBTQ laws in the world. Human rights advocates say such laws also have a chilling effect on the day-to-day lives of members of the LGBTQ community.
