Bill Belichick Praises Mac Jones As Patriots Clinch Playoff Berth

Just when everybody thought they were dead, the New England Patriots took the NFL by storm again to prove that they will always compete at the highest level.

After one year of struggles without Tom Brady, the Patriots turned to rookie QB Mac Jones to lead the way into the future.

And, even though he hasn’t exactly been box-office, the rookie out of Alabama has done just enough to help them clinch a playoff berth and become one of the biggest dark horses to win it all.

Belichick Lauds Mac Jones' Consistency

Jones hasn’t been the flashiest, most impressive player on the gridiron.

However, HC Bill Belichick has been pleasantly surprised with his development, consistency, and all the hard work he’s put in:

“Mac is super consistent,” the coach said, per Yahoo Sports. “Every day is really the same day for Mac. He’s always well prepared. He’s in early. He’s ready to go. He knows what we’re going to be doing, and he’s already got a head start on it. He maximizes the information that the coaches give him, maximizes the walkthroughs, the practice reps, and learns from whatever happens in those situations.

Jones Is A Good Learner, Says Belichick

Belichick praised Jones’ intelligence and how quickly he gets a hold on what they want from him, lauding his work ethic for such a young player.

"He’s smart. He’s a good learner, but he’s got good instincts and good mechanics," Belichick added. "He’s just worked hard to get better every day. A lot of consistency and great work ethic and really pays attention to details and has just improved in every area throughout the course of the year. Continues to improve on a daily basis."

Belichick Says Jones Is Easy To Coach

Jones made the most of his experience with Nick Saban during his days in Alabama and it shows, as Belichick thinks he’s just an easy guy to coach.

“He’s just a really great person to coach because he’s so responsive to trying to do everything the way that you want to do it. [Offensive coordinator] Josh [McDaniels] has done a fantastic job with him, and Mac has really, I think, embraced the wisdom that Josh has transmitted to him, and he played extremely well [Sunday]," the coach concluded.

Jones' Answer On New Year's Resolutions Will Make Belichick Proud

More than that, it seems like the rookie has already gotten used to ‘the Patriots way,’ as he’s entirely focused on football and doesn’t want to leave any sort of room for distraction.

When asked about his New Year’s resolutions, Jones gave the most Bill Belichick kind of response.

“I’m not gonna release any of those,” Jones said on Merloni & Fauria. “But, I think everyone, you know, when the new year comes, you wanna try and improve yourself and all that. But nothing crazy. Um, and, you know, I don’t, like, think too much about it. I just kinda continue on and focus on what I can control.” Now, the Patriots will look to prove that they’re still the creme of the crop, even though they’ll have a tough task ahead in the road to the Super Bowl.
