Despite Italy’s new laws, the Geo Barents is still racing to rescue migrants at sea

Overcrowded migrant boats in the Central Mediterranean sea are not new. Neither are the restrictions against the NGOs working to rescue them. However, a new Italian decree, coupled with an increasing level of security and surveillance at sea, now compromises organizations like Doctors Without Borders (MSF) chance of turning the tide on the world’s deadliest migration route.
