Since the 2021 NFL season, Former Penn State Nittany Lions linebacker Micah Parsons continues to prove that the Dallas Cowboys made the right decision to select him using the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Parsons’ impressive performance on the field is undoubtedly one of the major reasons why the Cowboys had a close game against the reigning Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won their last two games against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

In his first three games as an NFL player, Parsons didn’t only show his elite defensive skills, but also his ability to play multiple positions. However, if there’s one thing that makes Parsons stands out the most, Cowboys General Manager Jerry Jones said it’s his intensity.

“I think his intensity, and I think that’s a keyword for him," Jones said in an appearance on Shan and RJ Show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM], as quoted by the The Dallas Morning News. "I think his intensity is — and comparisons will get you in a lot of trouble, but I think he’s got that Michael Irvin intensity. He has that Randy White."

Michael Irvin and Randy White are two NFL legends who played for the Cowboys. Irvin was the Cowboys’ No. 11 pick in the 1988 NFL Draft, while White was selected No. 2 in the 1975 NFL Draft. Both retired NFL players have remarkable careers as members of the Cowboys.

Irvin, who was a five-time Pro Bowl and a First-team All-Pro in 1991, had helped the Cowboys win the Super Bowl three times. Meanwhile, White had led the Cowboys to one Super Bowl title and was named First-team All-Pro seven times and Pro Bowl nine teams.

As of now, Parsons has successfully erased any doubts surrounding the Cowboys’ decision to select him using the No. 12 pick. However, Jones said there’s one player in Cowboys’ history who started his career better than Parsons.

“You know, Larry Allen really was… as much as we had a positive future in mind for Larry Allen when we got him, we really didn’t realize what that kind of talent or that kind of football player could be," Jones said. "And, so, I would say it’s on par with the, even though you thought of him highly, and we thought he was the best defensive player in the draft coming out in Micah."

Larry Allen’s Similarity With Micah Parsons

Though they are playing at the opposite end of the field, Allen and Parsons have similarities as NFL players. Both Allen and Parsons have started their NFL career playing multiple positions. Allen, the No. 46 pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, was rotating as an offensive guard and an offensive tackle in his first year with the Cowboys, while Parsons is currently being utilized as a linebacker and a pass rusher in Dallas.

If Parsons continues to work on his game, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he also becomes a Pro Football Hall of Famer like Allen.
