Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is one of the superstars who are frequently mentioned in trade rumors. The Trail Blazers have already said on numerous occasions that they have no plan to trade Lillard and undergo a full-scale rebuild. However, with their inability to build a title contender around him, most people believe that it would only be a matter of time before Lillard follows in the footsteps of other superstars and start finding his way out of Portland.

One of the teams that are closely monitoring Lillard’s situation with the Trail Blazers is the Golden State Warriors. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors have already "internally discussed the idea" of bringing Lillard to the Bay Area in the 2021 offseason.

"Would the Warriors get involved? Yes," Slater wrote, as quoted by NBC Sports. "They’d make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I’m sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland."

GSW Seriously Considering Adding A Fourth Superstar

It’s hardly a surprise that the Warriors are interested in acquiring Lillard from the Trail Blazers. Since the 2020 offseason, there have been rumors that the Warriors are planning to add another superstar to their roster. The Warriors may be expected to have the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green back in the 2021-22 NBA season but as of now, they must be aware that they need more star power on their roster in order to have a better chance of reclaiming their throne and reviving their dynasty next year.

Lillard would be an incredible acquisition for the Warriors this summer. His potential arrival in Golden State is expected to tremendously improve their performance on the offensive end of the floor. He would give them one of the league’s best active scorers, as well as an incredible playmaker and an elite three-point shooter.

This season, the 30-year-old superstar averaged 28.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc, ESPN. It would still take time for Lillard to familiarize himself with Coach Steve Kerr’s system but once he meshes well with Curry, Thompson, and Green, the Warriors would form another superteam in Bay Area.

Warriors Could Offer Best Trade Package For Damian Lillard

Trading for Lillard would certainly require the Warriors to pay the king’s ransom. Luckily, though they are currently buried deep in the luxury tax hell, the Warriors possess a plethora of precious trade assets. As Slater noted, the Warriors could offer the Trail Blazers the best trade package for Lillard.

The trade package headlined by former No. 2 pick James Wiseman, the No. 7 and No. 14 picks in the 2021 NBA Draft would immediately catch the Trail Blazers’ attention, especially if they decide to undergo a full-scale rebuild. The Warriors could also use Andrew Wiggins’ contract for salary-matching purposes and include future first-rounders in their offer to sweeten the deal.
