NFL News: Allen Lazard Signs RFA Tender With Packers

Allen Lazard has been missing minicamp due to not having a contract agreement with the Green Bay Packers, but that ended earlier this week.

The Green Bay Packers wide receiver signed his restricted free-agent tender on Monday and is going to start practicing with the team soon.

Was This A Good Decision From Green Bay?

Considering that the Green Bay Packers lost Davante Adams this off-season, it was best for them to retain Allen Lazard. Allen Lazard is certainly not the same type of wide receiver as Davante Adams, but he's more than serviceable and can give the Packers some added depth.

During the 2021 season, he had 40 receptions for 513 yards and also had eight touchdowns. With Aaron Rodgers deciding to come back to Green Bay this season, he should be able to continue finding success. He's likely going to have to fill in a bigger role with Davante Adams leaving.

Green Bay Needed Another Wide Reciever

Not only did the Green Bay Packers lose Devante Adam via trade to the Las Vegas Raiders during the offseason, but they also lost Marquis Valdes-Scantling, who left the Packers to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.

It was somewhat questionable why Green Bay didn't get a deal done sooner for Allen Lazard, considering that they're going to have some issues this season at the wide receiver position. Aaron Rodgers has made it known throughout the past few years that he's not been happy with what the Green Bay front office has done in terms of getting guys around him and this is another one of those situations.

Will Lazard Be WR1 This Season?

It's difficult to say if Allen Lazard is going to be the top receiver for Green Bay this season. They do have some interesting decisions that they're going to have to make throughout the year on who's going to be their main wide receivers.

They went out and signed veteran Sammy Watkins and also drafted Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

How Will The Packers Play This Season?

With Aaron Rodgers still being the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers this season, they should be able to continue finding success.

The one thing that we're going to have to look out for here with Green Bay is if they're going to be able to find success come playoff time. They've had some disappointing playoffs in the past and that's what their biggest question is going to be coming into the season once again.
