NFL News: Patrick Mahomes Reacts To Kyler Murray’s Massive Contract Extension

Following months of speculation and rumors, the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray agreed on terms on a five-year, 230.5 million contract that'll make him the second-highest paid QB in the NFL at $ 46.1 million per year, trailing only Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes' historical deal set the baseline for the upcoming QB market, so younger gunslingers are likely to top his contract any time soon.

He's Unbothered By The Changing Market

Nonetheless, Mahomes doesn't think of it as a competition. He knows he's set for life and couldn't care less if other QBs wind up making more than him:

"When I signed my deal, I knew I was going to be set for life regardless of how the market [went],'' Mahomes told ESPN. "You just keep playing. Money is one thing, but when you get those Super Bowl rings — at the end of your career, I think that's going to be the thing that you look back on. I think I've made enough money on the football field and off of it as well that it won't matter at the end of the day."Mahomes Wants To Stay Competitive

Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert could top Mahomes' massive contract with the Chiefs. Still, Pat claims it's not just about money but also finding the way to put together a competitive squad around the QB:

"You always want to get paid and take care of your family, but I want a great team around me as well," Mahomes added.Cardinals Demand Commitment From Murray

Notably, it's not like the Cardinals just agreed to give Murray a bunch load of guaranteed money.

According to Ian Rapoport, they included a mandatory four hours of 'Independent Study' per game week, as there were concerns about him not watching enough film.

Murray Admits He Doesn't Watch A Lot Of Film

The young QB admitted that he's never been much of a fan of watching film, claiming he's smart enough to make adjustments on the fly:

“I think I was blessed with the cognitive skills to just go out there and just see it before it happens,” Murray told 98.7 Arizona Sports. “I’m not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film. I don’t sit there for 24 hours and break down this team and that team and watch every game because, in my head, I see so much.”

Murray has been quite efficient despite not being that much of a film rat, so one can only wonder how good he'll be if he takes his preparation up a notch.
