NFL Rumors: Mac Jones To Use Patriots BYE Week To Work On Key Aspect

The New England Patriots are the hottest team in the National Football League right now.

Bill Belichick’s team started off the season looking poised for a top-3 pick in the upcoming draft. Now, fans and analysts are talking about the Super Bowl.

They’re riding a league-best seven-game winning streak and in sole control of their destiny.

But even good things can be better and God knows coach Belichick won’t settle for anything less than full domination. And Mac Jones is also aware of that.

Jones Says He Needs To Reduce Turnovers

That’s why the rookie out of Alabama vowed to use this time off to work on taking better care of the football and limit the turnovers.

“I think just playing within the offense, understanding how to win games, what teams do bad, and exposing that,” Jones said, as quoted by USA Today. "I’ve obviously been taught my whole football life that when you don’t turn the ball over, good things happen. The more you can do that, the more you can play within your offensive scheme, the better. I can continue to do a good job there."

Through the first 13 weeks, Jones has two fumbles lost and eight passes picked off.

Pats Are Taking Better Care Of The Ball, Says Jones

Jones said that the team is doing a better job of taking care of the football now than during the first stretch of the season, holding accountability for most of the team’s turnovers:

“We’ve just been doing a better job with it," Jones added. "Everyone has. The fumbles and interceptions were my fault for the most part, obviously, because you can’t throw it to the other team. It’s an area to improve on, but you also can’t be gun-shy or anything like that. You’ve just got to go out there and try to throw it to the right guy.”

Jones Is Already Getting Ready For The Colts

The Patriots’ rookie has turned a lot of heads with his relentless work ethic.

He knows that the BYE week is about much more than just getting some rest, as he’s already getting ready for a tough challenge against the Colts’ bruising defense:

“Like I said, reviewing the film and things that we can do better,” Jones said. per Yahoo Sports. “And then just getting away a little bit, taking the advice from the older people on our team. But also realizing that we have a big game coming up against Indy and they’re a great team with a similar situation that we’re in. They may not have started super fast like we did, but they’ve been playing really well down the stretch. And they’re well-coached and have great players. So we have to be ready with that in mind and have a big-picture view there.”

Bill Belichick Inspires His Team, Silences His Doubters

Bill Belichick’s team continues to prove their doubters wrong. They’re motivated, hungry, and eager to keep making a statement:

“Just two quick things from me and then I’m going to turn it over to our orator (Matt Slater). That’s why we practice in this sh*t,” Belichick said. "Tonight is one of those nights…that you’ll remember 10, 15, 20 years from now."

Even if the Patriots don’t win the whole thing this season, it’s been a helluva run for one of the most hated teams in the nation.
