The Handmaid’s Tale review: A harrowing dystopian novel set in a futuristic United States

IN 1985, the Canadian author Margaret Atwood made quite an impact with The Handmaid’s Tale, a harrowing, dystopian novel set in a futuristic United States which has been taken over by a totalitarian, misogynistic group after being subjected to several disasters. In 2017, this was turned into a successful television series which was somewhat less disturbing that the original novel.
